An aldermanic committee on Tuesday endorsed an amended board bill regarding the redevelopment of the former Millennium Hotel property downtown, putting a pause on specifics behind city tax incentives for a $670 million project in order to reach the demolition phase faster. The Board of Aldermen’s Housing, Urban Development and Zoning committee voted “do pass” on a revised Board Bill 39, which is the redevelopment plan for the project backed by the Gateway Arch Park Foundation and Cordish. The original bill called for 20 years of 90% tax abatement for the project, which seeks to transform what has become an eyesore in the downtown skyline into a 4.2 acre campus with 1.3 million square feet of residential, office, commercial and public spaces, including an amphitheater, a food court, as well as a potential home for the Arch National Park archives.
